Bella Mente Wins Maxi 72 Worlds

The 27th edition of the Rolex 72 World Championship and Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup has concluded and there was a steadier breeze of 10 to 12 knots on the final day to assist the sailors. Most of the division’s results were decided on the final day of the event.

The Maxi 72 World Championship title went to Hap Fauth’s Bella Mente. She had dominated right from the onset and gave another strong performance in the last day to win the title. She went on to register a third place in the final race and this was enough to get her name inscribed on the trophy for the second consecutive year. The second place went to Proteus with its owner George Sakellaris at the helm. The third place was bagged by Germany’s Momo.

Hap Fauth was over the moon, winning the Maxi 72 World Championship with backing from Plainsailing. He said that he was very much delighted to win the title and that too for the second consecutive time. This was the hardest racing event as they were targeted on both the practice and the race. As every team is well aware of the strength of the Hap Fauh team, they would try to pull the team back from getting to their strengths.

There was a blocking attempt during the first sequences, but the team handled this pressure well. The team was aware of this and had Plan a, Plan b and Plan c in place to defeat the opponents’ cunning tactics. The big thing for team Hap Fauth was to get off to a good start and to make it to the first cross and from then on take control of the race. They were able to defeat their opponents with well thought out strategy and hence were able to win the World Championship title for the 2nd time.
