Ainslie Doubtful About America’s Cup

Olympic sailing star Ben Ainslie might be trying hard to get together Britain’s 1st triumphant America’s Cup squad -but he himself is not exactly sure whether he would be actually taking part in the 2017 season of the eminent race.

The 4-times Olympic gold winner was a pivotal support for Oracle in its phenomenal overturn of 8-1 deficit by defeating Team NZ with 9-8 last year at San Francisco. Ben is the first ever Brit sailor who has been a part of a winning America’s Cup squad.

Now, he has come up with his own endeavor under the title of “Ben Ainslie Racing” to focus on the prestigious America’s Cup trophy – however he has already admitted of his awareness of the immense challenge posed on a debutant entrant at the race.

“There has just been one squad in America’s Cup history which has been able to bag the winning trophy the 1st time around”, stated Ben while attending the recent America’s Cup media conference, prior to a stint yacht chartering in Largs

“It was quite a huge comeback with Spithill (Oracle skipper) & the Oracle guys & it would definitely be a tremendous challenge while competing with this stellar team” he continued. “But again, for us, here in Britain, getting the Cup at home would be something really massive for this squad & this nation.”

However, the sailing great was tight-lipped whilst questioned on his participation possibilities in 2017.

“We are coming up with a predominantly Brit sailing team”, stressed the 37-year-old star sailor. “It would be a mix of seasoned guys who were successful in America’s Cup & some youth talent as well, especially Brit talent. Putting the squad together & working out to see how those bonds finalize- if we’re going to race the next day I would have been at the steering but it might not look the same after 2 years”.
