Kerry Stokes, the well known Media magnate, has been a piracy victim in Papua New Guinea. Mr Stokes’ private vessel was taken over by thieves earlier on Friday morning when it anchored close to Krangket Island, near Madang on east coast of the country.
A spokesperson for Seven Network told that vessel was robbed at the week’s end, but Mr Stokes as well as his family members did not come in the region till Sunday. The thieves snatched a row boat out to reach the yacht.
The spokesperson reportedly stated that the yacht was robbed and the thieves were confronted by the boat crew. The family has been visiting up there for several years and the people up there are wonderful. This is out of character. Peter Barter,  the former Madang governor, told that the yacht refueled at a local marina earlier on Friday before traveling out to Krangket.
Peter Barter said that they did not want to make an issue over this incident but they insisted that a report was made to police. Regretfully this incident is already known around Cairns and would deter motor yachts and tourists from the visiting Madang and PNG.
Mr Barter stated that Mr Stokes’ yacht went in to lockdown following the incident. According to reports, the PNG police in the Port Moresby told that they are more than aware of the incident and they are anticipated to comment later on Friday.
